Measure what needs to fit
Laptop labels can be misleading: screen size is not the same as the device’s outer dimensions. Compare the padded compartment measurements with your actual laptop. Include the charger, lunch box and bottle in your mental packing list before deciding how much space you need.
Pay attention to carrying comfort
Broad adjustable straps, sensible padding and a shape that sits close to your back can make daily use more pleasant. Comfort depends on your build and how you pack. If possible, test the bag with a realistic load rather than judging it while empty.
Distinguish water resistance from waterproofing
A water-resistant fabric does not guarantee that seams, zips and openings will protect electronics during heavy rain. Look for a specific description of the protection offered. For monsoon commuting, a separate rain cover and an inner protective sleeve may be worth considering.
Look for repairable everyday details
Zips, bottle pockets, lining and stitching are often the first things to notice after months of use. Check their design in close-up images and read detailed reviews. A bag with useful compartments is better than one with many pockets you cannot reach or use.
